20 Things That Make In-N-Out Great!

Nothing can beat a juicy hamburger after you've spent a long day at the beach. The wonderful, gooey cheese, the flavorful beef, and let's not forget the special sauce. If you don't know what we're talking about, then you've never experienced a California staple: In-N-Out!

Check out these 20 things that make In-N-Out great!

1. Fresh Matters        4978837772_e64e61a52e_o

In-N-Out opened in 1948 at the corner of Francisquito and Garvey in Baldwin Park and the owner personally shopped for the best ingredients and made everything by hand! Now that is how you make a burger! To this day, none of In-N-Out's food is pre-packaged or frozen.

2. History

3438370778_c9ebbf4e16_b Flickr - Tommaso Galli In-N-Out was California's first drive through. At In-N-Out, there is no need to even get out of your car, just drive right up to the window and enjoy a meal made fresh just for you. The helpful In-N-Out workers even ask if you'll be dinning in your car or taking it home! 1692400810_efa69955d3_b Flickr - Steve Lyon

3. Combinations

27061001_8543fa9e2a_o Flickr - Simon Willison Looking for a little variety in your hamburger selection? Choose your personal meat to cheese ratio up to a 4x4 which is four meat patties and four slices of cheese. Or get adventurous and cut back on the meat or the cheese. Just remember, meat first, cheese after. Example: 3x4 means 3 patties x 4 slices of cheese.

4. Secrets

8607195267_acd9dd7093_b Flickr - Cory Gurman In-N-Out offers more than their typical menu. They have a Secret Menu! You can order fun things like yellow chillies, animal fries (which includes grilled onions and their special sauce), bun doughnuts, protein style (no bun, just lettuce) or even a root beer float!

5. Welcome to the 60s

2705353609_24c103b352_b Flickr - @kevinv033 The animal style hamburger was first introduced in 1961 at the request of a customer. To make this creation, they stack up lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions, and extra spread topped off by a mustard-cooked beef patty. Delicious.

6. Just the way you like it

3771562972_707c68944a_b Flickr - Matt DeTurck Most don't know, but you can order your patty's medium rare!!! Now that you know, you have to try it!

7. Back to School

diploma Flickr - gadgetude There is an In-N-Out University! It sounds a little like a hamburger paradise, but in reality it was created in 1984 on the site where In-N-Out founder Harry Snyder's house once stood, and was a training facility for store managers. 8. Bottoms Up

2911467497_6088e685fa_b Flickr - Justin Green There are Bible verse references on the bottom of every cup and on hamburger wrappers. Just remember to finish your drink before you check ;)

9. Cheese, Cheese, Cheese

20110228-in-n-out-secret-menu - 14 Serious Eats - J. Kenji Lopez You have the option to order cold cheese. Not sure why you wouldn't want the melty-goodness, but hey, there's an option for everyone at In-N-Out which is just another thing that makes In-N-Out greatt!

10. Fries, Fries, Fries

4856283240_fc4a73171a_b Flickr - mayka If you like fries, you'll LOVE In-N-Out's fries. Try them extra crispy (fries well done), animal style (with grilled onions and special sauce), or even cheese fries (with cheese on top). 2415619686_f51321692a_b Flickr - supercake

11. Sweet Tooth

2912312326_13ae724afd_b Flickr - Justin Green You have the option of ordering a Neopolitan shake which combines chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Yum!

12. Vegetarian Options

1333563612_be08f9f179_b Flickr - Sharona790 Not a fan of hamburgers? Only eat vegetarian? Not to worry, In-N-Out has you covered. You can order a grilled cheese or a veggie burger!

13. Seeing Double

3639469801_19dddc1b63_b Flickr - jbhalper In 1963, the "Double Double" (2 meat patties and 2 cheese slices) was first advertized. Today, it's common knowledge and a favorite for many In-N-Out fans.

14. Julia Child

2742499539_e6498a8741_b Flickr - Thomas Hawk Apparently, Julia Child was also a huge In-N-Out fan (she knew what was up!). She was reported to always have a list of stores with her just in case...

15. Among the Rich and Famous

Lynsi Torres, granddaughter to In-N-Out founders, Esther and Harry Snyder,  has been recognized as one of the youngest female multimillionaires!

16. Hidden Treasure

In-N-Out Flickr-Joshua Bousel Ever noticed how there always seems to be crossed palm trees outside of In-N-Out? That's no accident! The tradition started in 1972 to mark each store as Harry Snyder's special treasure (taken from his love of the move It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World).

17. Sit down and enjoy

344768769_16e14bd63f_b Flickr - brian wallace Until 1979 In-N-Out was strictly a drive-through restaurant. The 21st restaurant in Ontario was the first to introduce a seating area and has made In-N-Out what we know and love it to be today!

18. Worth it

119669948_eccdd5c32b_b Flickr - Jeroen Elfferich Considering a job at In-N-Out? One of the things that make's In-N-Out great is the fact that they are more than fair to their employees. A manager at In-N-Out makes over $100,000 a year and their employee starting wage is $10.50 an hour. It's no wonder they have the lowest turnover rates in the fast food market. People like working at In-N-Out, can you blame them?

19. Fan Merch

That's right. In-N-Out even has a fan merchandise. They have everything from sandals to hats, T-shirts to onesies. They even have a travel mug which means there is no reason you can't sport your In-N-Out pride on a weekly (maybe even daily) basis.

20. Happy Birthday

Freyja's 3rd Birthday Flickr - Dave Gunn In-N-Out just celebrate it's 60th birthday! When it was first started by Harry and Esther Snyder, they set up principles by which they would run their business and those principles have stayed firm through 60 years. Now if that doesn't make In-N-Out great, I don't know what does!   Cover Photo: Flickr - Brian Wallace Source 1, Source 2

You may be from Southern California if...

You may be from Southern California if...

We love California here, but it's true that those living in Southern California say some pretty unique things. Residents in Southern California just have funny ways of acting and saying things. Just like any other state, you adapt to your surroundings. For most of Southern California, that's a laid-back, beach-culture that takes a relaxed approach to life. We've compiled a list of some of the more popular things Southern Californian's say and do. If you're from Southern California, you will definitely be able to relate to this list.

You may be from Southern California if...

You say: "I am so cold right now"

...and that's because it's below 65 degrees. Most of us living in Southern California just don't know what real cold is. Southern California Sunset

You indicate directions by saying: "THE >>insert freeway number here<<"

In Southern California it's not uncommon to hear a phrase like, "Take the 5 to the 405 and get off at Sunset Blvd." We've adopted adding "the" before our freeway numbers. Don't ask why, we just do :)

Southern California Freeway

You know what Carmageddon is.

Yep. Carmageddon. It's a thing. And if you're from Southern California you've probably heard of it. A while back, the 405 Freeway was closed a few times due to construction. The residents of Los Angeles who frequently (and dependently) use the 405 termed it Carmageddon...and it was awful.

More than 75% of your closet consists of tank tops, shorts, and flip-flops.

When it's close to a 100 degrees in February, and you technically live in the desert, what else are you going to do but pack away your light sweaters and break out the tank tops?

You say "no worries" on a regular basis.

It's no secret that people in Southern California are known for being relaxed, go-with-the-flow type of people. Some would say that translates to being perpetually late, dressing casually, or having a laid back attitude toward life. We would just attribute it to a "beach-living" mentality that says, "It's all good, go with the flow." Southern California In-N-Out

You love In-N-Out.

In-N-Out is an obsession for almost everyone who lives in Southern California. You're probably familiar with phrases like "animal style", "double double", or "protein style" and, chances are, you have an unhealthy addiction to their secret sauce.

Find yourself thinking it's "normal" to see celebrities--everywhere!

For the rest of the U.S., it's not typical to be out to lunch and see a celebrity sitting two tables away. For us in Southern California, it can be a common occurrence, especially if you hang out at Hollywood hot spots like Nobu Los Angeles, Tavern, Pizzeria Mozza, or the ever-popular Intelligentsia.

Use the word "like" more than, like, necessary in a, like, sentence.

It's true. For us in Southern California, we like the word like. It, like, naturally drops into, like, conversation. It's like, weird. Southern California Surfer

Flickr-Laurent_Imagery

You've been called dude (no matter your gender).

This also works if you've called someone else a "dude" no matter their gender. It's common place for us in Southern California to use the term "dude" whether you're a guy or a girl. Dude, don't take offense. It's just the way we roll.

What about you? How many of these do you identify with?

Top 6 Places to Eat in California

A great meal while you are on vacation can be a memorable experience. There are people who enjoy amazing views, fabulous museums and interesting historic objectives. And we meet just as many travelers who go back to a place just because they had a mind blowing culinary experience there. So we made a top of 6 best places to eat when you are in California useful for those of you who travel on a budget and for visitors who wish to have an exquisite, refined meal at a more expensive restaurant.

Where will you eat in California?

1. In-N-Out Burger  With amazing reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor and a tradition of more than 60 years, In-N-Out offers its visitor fresh, tasty, quality burgers. It all started in 1948, when Harry Snider introduced in California the first drive-thru hamburger stand. We’ve heard people who ate here hamburgers with grilled onion and extra lettuce saying that this is the place where they would have their last meal on Earth. Double hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, shakes – they have it all. And you can find an In-N-Out almost everywhere you go, as they have 216 restaurants in California.   2. Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles Source Chicken and waffles? What combination is this you might wonder. An extravagant and very delicious one, we assure you. Founded in 1975, it became so well-known that “people don’t even question the strange combo anymore” (Los Angeles Times). Long Beach, Hollywood, Pasadena, Los Angeles and Inglewood – you can try this perfect match of ingredients in any of these cities.   3. Pedro’s Tacos Source “World’s Best Tacos since 1986” they say. And thousands of people agree each and every year. Although it has faithful clients who go there for years in a row, some of them are so in love with fish tacos that they didn’t even get to try anything else from the menu. Open for the first time in San Clemente, Pedro’s Tacos now has locations in Fallbrook and Oceanside. Bean and cheese burritos, quesadilla, shrimp tacos – everything here is extraordinary.   4. Osteria Mozza Source Fine Italian dining at a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. First of all, we could say that you haven’t really eaten pasta until you tried it at Osteria Mozza. It is not a surprise as the restaurant is owned by two passionate and renowned chefs and an Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional (recognized by James Beard Foundation and Bon Appétit). If you are in Los Angeles and wish to dine in a place where food, service and décor are perfect, we recommend you Osteria Mozza.   5. Manresa Source Inspired from European traditions and American cuisine, Chef-Proprietor David Kinch (who won Best Chef in America award) offers the best service and food to his clients. Experienced sommeliers pair the menu you choose with unique wines, in the magic ambiance created at the foothills of Santa Cruz Mountains (Los Gatos).   6. Kokkari Estiatorio Source The proud winner of the Traveler’s Choice award on Trip Advisor in 2012, Kokkari offers the best Greek food you can find outside Greece. Its visitor say that in ancient times, Gods used to eat the dishes you can nowadays find in Kokkari’s menu. The Mediterranean cuisine, the seafood, the traditional Aegean dishes and the design capturing the European old-world will make you come back as often as you can.     Have you been to eat in California and had a wonderful dining experience? Tell us about it!
